This job, located in New Canaan, Connecticut, involved turning an existing screened porch into a finished room with heat, electric, phone, cable and a new fireplace. A new deck with roof was also added.
This deck was built with pressure treated lumber. Two layers of lattice was used to create an innovative and pleasant looking outdoor storage area beneath. The existing kitchen door was replaced with a new Anderson French Door.
The deck spindles were crafted from pressure treated lumber, while Port Orford cedar was used as the hand and foot rails.
A second Anderson French Door was installed as an entrance to the finished room from the deck addition. The rear of the house and the finished addition was sided with eight-inch red cedar clapboard and painted to match the existing facade. A red cedar stain was applied to the ceiling, which was built using yellow pine, tongue and groove beaded board.
A fireplace was incorporated into the plan midway through construction. A mantel and gray toned ceramic tile hearth and surround completed the homeowner's request.
Anderson manufactured all the windows and doors used during this construction. With the exception of the elliptical and picture windows, all the windows were double hung - tilt wash.
